Talk on the Cheap.
Living abroad with friends and family still at home can have a devastating effect on your bank balance. Even though the cost of local calls are pretty good. Calling South Africa can prove very expensive indeed.
We have searched the web for some ways of saving your hard earned money, and come up with the following deals:
SKYPE:
ABOUT SKYPE – or click on the banner to go to the Skype site.
Skype to Skype
This is the ultimate in free VOIP, talk as long as you want to how ever you want absolutely free. The requirements are that both parties need to have downloaded Skype and both have either headsets or Skype phones , and then its talk talk time.. Tons of it. It makes tons of sense to encourage those back home to take up the Skype offer, however South African broadband is not cheap and not everyone has the internet at home.
SkypeOut
If this was a perfect world, there’d be no yodelling, we wouldn’t be ashamed of our love handles and everyone would be using Skype to talk for free.
Unfortunately the world is far from perfect, and not everyone has Skype yet. That’s why we have SkypeOut, a low cost way to make calls from Skype to friends who still use those traditional landlines or mobile phones. That means calling anyone, anywhere in the world at local rates.
Just as an example, when you use SkypeOut to call within the United Kingdom, you can save up to 45% per minute compared to regular calling through Tele2 UK.
SkypeIn
With SkypeIn, you can get your own, regular phone number. So if your friends who aren’t using Skype want to call you by dialing a regular number, you can still receive the call in Skype. No matter where you are.
So, if you have a Chicago-based SkypeIn number, but you’re living somewhere in the suburbs of Paris, your Chicago area friends - or anyone! - can just dial your SkypeIn number, and your Skype on the other side of the world starts ringing... and your friends are only paying whatever their phone company charges them for making a phone call to Chicago.
CALL CARDS:
There a quite a few options available with calling cards, not all of which are good. Some cards promise the earth but have awful connections and limited line availability. Also watch out for the small print, some of the cards expire after a very small time period whether you have used all the credit or not. Here are two of the better deals around.

MOBILE PHONE CONTRACTS:
Not a bad idea to check out the Mobile Contracts at one of the larger dealership. Some of the networks have “free international” call minutes bundled in with their packages.
Phones2U direct has a variety of networks available, their site allows you to compare online the deals available. CLICK the banner above to enter the Phones2U direct site.
